Why We're Featuring Gemima This Quarter

There are jewellers in London who are well-known because they have spent heavily on making themselves well-known. And then there are jewellers who are well-known among people who actually know about jewellery. Gemima belongs firmly in the second category.

Operating from a studio in Wandsworth Town, one of south-west London's most characterful and increasingly well-regarded neighbourhoods, Gemima has built a devoted following through something refreshingly old-fashioned: exceptional work, genuine expertise, and a client experience that makes the whole process feel less like a transaction and more like a collaboration between people who care about the same thing.

We started hearing Gemima's name from multiple independent sources, from clients who'd bought rings there, from other jewellers who respected the work, and from people in the jewellery trade who know the difference between a studio that markets well and one that makes well. The consistency of that reputation is what brought us here.

The Work

Gemima specialises in bespoke and semi-bespoke engagement rings, pieces that are either designed entirely from scratch for a specific client, or adapted from existing designs to make them personal. The breadth of work is notable: from the most classic round-brilliant solitaires to more unusual designs featuring coloured stones, vintage-inspired settings, and geometric band profiles that feel entirely contemporary.

What distinguishes the work is a combination of technical precision and real aesthetic sensitivity. The rings don't look like they were designed by committee or produced to a template. They look like they were made by someone who thinks carefully about what a ring should be, not just how it should be made.

Diamonds are sourced with care, and clients are taken through the stone selection process with genuine transparency, shown several options at equivalent price points, explained the trade-offs between them, and given time to make their own decision. This approach to the buying process reflects a confidence in the quality of the work that the high-pressure environments of some more prominent jewellers do not always share.

"Gemima is the kind of jeweller you tell your friends about. Not the most famous name in London. The right name, for someone who wants something truly personal, made properly."

The Experience

A consultation at Gemima's studio begins with a proper conversation, about the person who will wear the ring, their style, their personality, what they already wear and what they've always said they'd want. This isn't small talk before getting to the business of selling. It's the foundation of a ring that will be right rather than merely acceptable.

The studio is relaxed and unpretentious. There are no commission-driven sales consultants, no time pressure, and no sense that you are expected to make a decision before you're ready. Clients regularly describe the process of buying from Gemima as something they genuinely enjoyed, which is, in our experience, a rarer thing than it should be.

Bespoke commissions are typically completed within 8–10 weeks. Semi-bespoke pieces from the existing design portfolio can often be turned around more quickly. The team are also skilled at working with inherited stones, resetting a family diamond or sapphire into a new setting designed around it, and at the kind of personalisation details that make a ring genuinely unique: coordinate engravings, hidden stones set inside the band, meaningful date inscriptions.

Wandsworth Town: Worth the Journey

Wandsworth Town sits between Clapham, Battersea, and Balham, well-connected, well-served, and considerably more enjoyable to visit than the West End on a busy Saturday. The high street and surrounding streets have a village-like quality that makes the visit itself feel easy and unhurried. Wandsworth Town railway station is a short journey from Waterloo and Clapham Junction, and there is good parking in the area for those driving in from south-west London or Surrey.

For clients who live in south-west London, Wimbledon, Richmond, Putney, Clapham, Battersea, or across the river in Chelsea and Fulham, Gemima represents a genuinely compelling local option. But clients come from further afield too, and they don't tend to regret the journey.

How to Get in Touch

Gemima works primarily by appointment. We recommend reaching out to introduce yourself and explain what you're looking for, the initial conversation is usually by phone or email, followed by an in-studio consultation at a time that suits you. Come with a sense of her style if you have it, a rough budget range, and an open mind. Everything else will follow.

About this feature

The Jeweller of the Quarter Spotlight

Each quarter, we partner with one independent London jeweller to produce a featured spotlight, an in-depth profile of their work, ethos, and what makes them worth visiting.

Jewellers featured in this spotlight have agreed to meet our editorial standards: genuine expertise in engagement rings, a record of positive client experiences, and a commitment to transparent, honest service. We do not feature jewellers who we would not independently recommend.

The spotlight is a commercial arrangement, jewellers pay to be featured, but editorial control remains entirely ours. We will not write favourably about a jeweller we do not believe in, and we will not suppress concerns we have identified. The disclaimer on each feature makes this explicit.

If you are a jeweller interested in being considered for a future Jeweller of the Quarter spotlight, please get in touch via our contact page. We assess all applications on the basis of quality and fit with our readership.
